PhilSCA Pushes for National Aviation Academy to Meet Industry Demand

The Philippine State College of Aeronautics (PhilSCA), in partnership with the Philippine Media Network Service Cooperative, Southern Metro Manila Press Club, and Airport Press Club, launched the first-ever Aviation Media Forum.

The event aimed to discuss programs and issues related to the development of the aviation industry in the Philippines.
The initial discussion focused on the proposed National Aviation Academy of the Philippines (NAAP) Bill, which seeks to expand PhilSCA into a national academy dedicated to advancing education and training in aviation.

The forum was attended by representatives from the media, lawmakers, and PhilSCA officials, who collaborated to discuss key provisions of the NAAP Bill and its potential impact on the aviation sector.

Atty. Marie Cuarto, representing Senator Ramon “Bong” Revilla Jr., the sponsor of Senate Bill No. 2801 (NAAP Bill), emphasized the Senate’s strong support for the proposal. She highlighted its objective to enhance local education to produce future leaders in aviation and aerospace.

“We aim to increase the number of pilots to address the shortage in the Philippines and showcase the global competitiveness of Filipino pilots,” Cuarto added.

Congressman Ron Salo, author of House Bill 7323, stated that the NAAP Bill “will lay the foundation for a stronger and more competitive aviation industry in the Philippines.” He expressed hopes that through quality education and training under NAAP, more Filipinos would qualify for aviation-related jobs.

PhilSCA President Marwin Dela Cruz described NAAP as a critical partner in shaping the next generation of aviation experts. “If the NAAP Bill becomes law, we can directly recruit industry experts to teach and help PhilSCA enhance its capabilities, ensuring our students are well-prepared for industry demands,” he said.

Dela Cruz further emphasized, “Through NAAP, we can address the growing global demand for pilots, technicians, and cabin crew. In the next 5 to 10 years, 600,000 pilots, 800,000 technicians, and 900,000 cabin crew will be needed. We want the Philippines to be ready for this opportunity. Therefore, I would like to request everyone to support the NAAP Bill to expedite the aviation sector’s growth and secure a brighter future for our youth.”

PhilSCA students also expressed strong support for the NAAP Bill, appealing to President Bongbong Marcos to certify it as an urgent measure to ensure its passage before the current Congress ends. They are optimistic that NAAP will provide them with more opportunities to contribute to the global aviation industry’s growing demands.

The discussion was lively during the open forum, where participants shared questions and suggestions about the NAAP Bill.

Stay tuned as we elevate to new heights in Philippine aviation education!
